A goliath grouper near a wreck off of Jupiter, Florida. October 2, 2010. Goliath grouper (also known as Jewfish) are an endangered species of fish that was on the brink of extinction just 20 years ago. A moratorium on fishing for them has been effective and the populations are rebounding. However, illegal poaching is still a major problem, and the species only mate once per year and produce a limited number of offspring.
