Using the food ingredients recommended by Tim Ferriss in his 4 Hour Body book, I've combined them into a tortilla wrap* to make breakfasts much easier and faster to prepare with the key ingredients - eggs, beans and spinach (plus some cheese).

This is a link to the abbreviated version of the diet rules. Scroll down 1/4 of the way: http://gizmodo.com/5709913/4+hour-body-+-the-slow+carb-diet

This was the quickest way I could find to at least do the minimum, even if its not "exact". *Yes, I know the tortilla wrap (and microwaving) is on the "avoid" list, but I figured its a small "cheat" to get all those other great ingredients in there and better to do some things rather than nothing at all. And . . . its only a "little bit" of cheese. Combined with mild/moderate exercise 20 - 45 min every day has worked really well for me.

This video is for all those who are struggling with consistently getting those 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up in the morning. So let me know how this works for you.

Note of Thanks: to Alex D. for graciously volunteering to hold the camera (on her birthday!! and in her PJ's) while precariously perched in the kitchen to get the right angles. We used my Kodak Zi8, but I forgot to let her know how to use the macro function for the close up shots that are looking a bit grainy.

Special thanks to my sister, Cheryl for her creative food wrap suggestions that have worked so well for me.

  • @1charlastar Like religion, food is a personal preference. Some people are fanatical (and judgemental) about what everyone else should eat and how to do it. And some people just like to share options that work for them. Some people "believe" microwaves destroy food. Can't quite figure how the majority of people using microwaves are still alive and some living into their 90's! If we went back to charcoal-fired food covered in some good ol'-fashioned nitrates, would that be even better?

  • Amazing! All that healthy food and then you destroy it in a MICROWAVE.

  • And I should add, the beans really are the key (at every meal). The cheese I used is far less than that shown in the video.

  • Amazingly, the rules are not that hard and fast. In two months I lost the 20 lbs and went down 2 dress sizes eating the wraps, drinking cold water etc. And, I have managed to maintain it (with the wraps) now after 4 months. IMHO the key is just getting started in the mornings and making that commitment as close an approximation as you have "resources" (time, etc). to allow for. It's not a "jail sentence". It worked, following Tim's concept (hence, the credit to his ideas) with modifications.

  • You sound like a very nice lady so forgive me for being blunt. Have you read the book? One of the basic rules is NO dairy, NO wheat. Maybe this can be considered low-carb by some diets but you should NOT reference this as a "4 hour body" recipe. The entire point of the "slow" carb diet, or any diet, is to "only" eat specified foods. The rules for the slow-carb diet are simple, and you chose to ignore the fundamental rules by adding wheat and cheese. Please rename your video to something else.

  • Good point. Just checked the nutritional values on the package and it is 35 grams of carbohydrates/wrap. Still, it has worked, so maybe there is a leeway or threshold for the amount of carbohydrates that keep it within a low-carb range if this is all the carbs that are being consumed (no potatoes, etc. except on binge days). Just wondering if this would work for anyone else? Any other guinea pigs out there? Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3, . . .

  • Doesn't a tortilla like that have over 30 grams of carbohydrates? The idea behind the slow carb diet is to not eat anything white....including the flour that was used to make that tortilla.

  • You make some valid points. However, consider this too. Microwaves were developed by the Nazis, later banned by the Russians in 1976 as a result of decades of studies which found that carcinogens were formed from microwaving nearly all food, turned amino acids into carcinogenic substances, formed cancer causing agents in meat, converted plant alkaloids into carcinogens, and much more. I recommend articles by Dr. Mercola on this subject, also studies by Dr. Hans Hertel. Cheers to good health :)

  • Or it could be like someone spending time on their computer with "dangerous" cathode rays being emitted into their eyeballs while looking for health tips online :-). There isn't a lot of validated evidence that microwave cooking is "dangerous" per se (unless you put yourself in the micro-oven!). Technology is such that people will still continue to use computers, microwaves, ipods, blackberries, cellphones etc. as it gives them *results*. Diets also aren't "healthy". People still do them.

  • I know you mean well, but how is irradiating your food with dangerous microwaves good for your health? That's like someone going out for a breath of fresh air and a cigarette.
