The snake charmers of India are entertainers who wander the street looking for an audience. He plays a been, and using circular breathing. I always feel a bit sorry for the snake, who never seems quite into it.

Some people have asked what he said at the end. We were walking and actually weren't in the mood, but he was very persistent and we agreed on a price. At the end he basically wanted my friend and I both to pay the price agreed upon, but we had made it clear that the price originally included both to us. Since India is based on haggling, and getting people to pay as much as possible, it's sometimes necessary to go into excruciating detail what is involved and your max price or extra changes may be applied. He was definitely worth it though, as he was the best snake charmer I heard in India.

  • Great video. Because most videos have comments such as, "Look at that f***ing snake!", or the people want to get in the film; but yours was just the snake charmer performing, that's what made it so nice.

  • I looked at the other videos of snake charmers on You Tube after I posted this, and some are horrible - slow and way out of tune. This guy plays fast and in tune, and gives the best performance I've seen yet

  • It's not a shehnai, it's a been/bin or pungi. Nice video...but do all the charmers play that movie theme?

  • You're right, it's not a shannai at all. It was late when I posted this and my brain wasn't working. Thanks for the clarification.

  • The 'snake song' is from the 1954 Indian Movie "Nagin" featuring the song Man Dole Mere Tan Dole. It's here on Youtube. FYI for those that don't know. Cheers

  • Hi! Good Day, this is Perry from the Philippines. I work on a television network called GMA-7 TV Network. We are currently doing an environmental documentary about king cobras in Thailand. I wonder if we can borrow this video of snake charmers in India and be able to use it in our documentary. This will be of great help to us to strenghten our story. Thank you very much.... If you have questions please email me at bidoh_10@yahoo.com.ph.
