In the aftermath of the 2000 election, the media focused a great deal of attention on punch-card voting and "hanging chads," and in 2002 the Help America Vote Act paved the way for the widespread adoption of e-voting machines. But however promising these machines may have appeared to be, they can be unreliable, produce incorrect vote tallying, and pose major security risks. Video the Vote monitors election integrity and captured footage of these machine problems in 2006.

18,000 voters lost their vote in Sarasota. As voters stated in this video, they tried to vote and the vote disappeared. 18,000 voters did not deliberately decide not to vote for a congressional candidate in 2006 when that was one of the most significant races in Sarasota, District 13.
