Captive Israeli Soldier at Heart of Possible Prisoner Exchange

News reports in Israel are quoting court documents saying Israel could release almost 1000 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Sergeant Gilad Shalit. In 2006, the young Israeli soldier was seized by Palestinian militants while he was on patrol. He was taken to the Gaza Strip. Israel's government has instituted a news blackout on the possible exchange, which is being brokered by Egypt and Germany. There is speculation the swap -- between Israel and Hamas -- is imminent. In Israel, VOA's Luis Ramirez reports, Shalit is a national hero.
