And you forget that Maggie wanted you to own your own house for a reason . . . you would work hard and not strike ! Simple ! You will put up with crap wages and (now) ever increasing working hours, they wonder why the family unit is breaking down yet expect you to work at least 45 hrs inc weekends. WAKE UP ENGLAND you are being enslaved !!

I was born on a council estate (back bedroom) our neighbors were fire men , police men and engineers, my dad had his own business and it was a great place to grow up with no trouble . Now most council estates (or indeed the word estate) means trouble, what happened ? My local council knocks down schools and council buildings, and then sells the land for a quick profit so some developer can make a mint selling urban boxes to those lucky enough (unlucky?) to want a new Astra and a DFS life style.

@Morglay So it's all the fault of the LP for the UK's woes? I don't vote for any of the three "big" parties although you seem to think I do.....I was very impressed by Major and Lamont during our ejection from the ERM in Sept' 1992. A marvellous example of Tory economic policy but as you say it was all Labour's fault....No! You go and read a bit more Tory boy :-)
-
@radio53 Yes and as usual,it was the Labour Party's policies that got us into this mess and as usual .it'll be left to the Tories to get us out.
As I said, try reading a history book before you make your uninformed comments!
-
@Morglay hehe you might like to look at how much we as tax payers subside big business today (oh and don't mention the banking industry...) but no matter what she was and is a c**t.
-
@radio53 Railway,steel,mining ,motor,aerospace ,shipbuilding,textiles,ports,a
ir transport and computer industries were all subsidised by taxpayers money. The sole purpose of this was,as usual, to buy votes for Labour. As a consequence,Britain went bankrupt and Chancellor Dennis Healey was forced to go to the IMF for a bailout {if you don't believe me,try reading a history book}. I remeber the poverty of the '70s and the rising standard of living during the Thatcher years.
-
@radio53 I'm from Bristol but I think I might just hold you to that. Cannot wait!!
-
Thatcher was and is a c**t, full stop. Meet me in Trafalgar Square the day after she pops her clogs and we can have drink.
-
@ForeverComplaining Nah,YOU said "it was ONLY us wealthy that owned ALL the houses"; WRONG. Where I come from LOADS of working class people owned their own houses. I should know ; my parents were one family who did. You're just changing what you said a bit to suit yourself now e.g. "she INCREASED" etc. ; typical
-
@TheKenfig WRONG! she increased the ownership, particularly among working class immensely. btw you have *No* figures to suggest she didn't and if you do they are flawed. Most w/c rented then.
i dont understand the video. what does the photos of los angeles have to do with england before thatcher?

@SMI05011459 Erm,the song opens with the line 'everybody's going to California'-don't see what other pics would've been relevant really. And the idea of the vid was to show that, for all the negative things constantly said about Britain in the '70s,it was actually a pretty fun time to grow up in.

Saw the Smirks several times, last time on my 18th birthday as openers for the Alberto's, the main support being a bunch of American unknowns called Devo at the Manchester Free trade hall, such a witty ,clever and talented band deserved far more success than they got..are we not men?..yes we bloody are and we drink ale !!!
