"This Is War" by Justin Rutledge, off of his 2006 album The Devil On A Bench In Stanley Park.

I've got Alaska on my mind
the mountain range a crooked spine
frostbitten moon among the pines
sometimes it snows

The rear view mirror telling lies
of where we've been and how times flies
if you can't look me in the eyes
then so it goes

Take your dress
from off the floor
I'm not the man
I was before
Ain't this what we've
been fighting for?

My father lived an honest man
he made a living by his hands
quiet men take quiet stands
sometimes he fell

Beauty's house I'll never find
I can't see the vineyard for the vines
I want to hear your hand in mine
Ocean In A Shell

It's in the air
It's on the shore
It's in our bed
It's at the door
Ain't this what we've
been fighting for?
Honey this is war

Honey this is war

Honey this is war

Honey this is war

Honey this is war

Honey this is war

Honey this is war

Oh this is war
Oh it's waitin' on the phone
Honey this is war

  • Justin Rutledge opened shows for Jim Cuddy on his solo tour, break from Blue Rodeo in 2006. I had never heard of him before. I was stunned and imediately bought his albums. Canada has some real diamonds out there and I would like to thank Jim for mentoring this man and bringing him to a wider audience. Justin is his own man but he reminds me of an early Neil Young and I am sure in time he will be as famous for his deep and insightful writing. Keep it coming Justin .

  • I COMPLETELY agree with you, and it's actually funny - one of my very first comments regarding Justin after my first time seeing him live was EXACTLY the same (regarding Neil Young).

If Justin doesn't become bigger than life, it'll only be because the music industry has been destroyed.

  • @robbieredlight this song totally hooked me as well. it is officialy my winter 2012 soundtrack. riding the TTC street car with this in my earphones lost in my thoughts is what I call 'me time'

  • This is a great tune--sign of things to come.

  • @MrAcousticLIFE agreed...this song hooked me about a year ago an i have seen him live twice since. the consistency of his material is just staggering and i know he will find a larger audience in time. that, and he is a heck of a nice guy to boot!

  • Today is honestly the first time i had ever heard of this musician and was instantly hooked ! brilliant songs and i am going to buy his albums, its a crying shame that this guy doesnt get more attention but im sure that he is going to make it huge ! he is to good not to !

  • First saw Justin at the Stewart Park Festival in Perth in 2007. I was so impressed I bought both of his CD's. This is one of my favourite songs. These songs are so powerful and moving. They are great works of poetry as well.

  • I first saw him when he played for Blue Rodeo last year, His lyrics and music is outstanding. I hope i get to see him in concert at least once again!!

  • Wicked song....
