Judo for MMA (http://judo4mma.com) - How to do Kakure Judo Club's Single Hip Guard Pass. This is a somewhat unusual guard pass that gives an opportunity for an ankle lock submission and allows you to pass through to a strong Kesa Gatame ground hold.

This is part of a series of videos by the Kakure Judo Club, adapting traditional Judo techniques to Mixed Martial Arts or self defense fighting.

  • this pass is called the sao paulo pass

  • i love this pass, i learned it in jujitsu, but instead of grabbing the head we go for the underhook on the same side. So instead of sitting through into that kesa gatame position you are in kuzure- kesa gatame

  • With my head and arm trapped I don't see how I would easily slip out of this...

  • Guy on the bottom can frame out of this at almost any point.

I do something similar on the 1 armed man pass. but i just drive around towards the trapped arms shoulder. they usually open their legs from the discomfort

  • Yep, it goes against almost everything you learn in Bjj as far as I know...

  • As a jiu jitsu player I'd love to see somebody try this. It will only work if you keep your gaurd closed. All he has to do is open his gaurd and snake his hips out . His legs are stronger then that arm thats holding him. At best you give up your back and your SOL. Worse if you get that arm stuck up there your risking a plethera of attacks on that arm, straight arm lock, belly down arm bar, kimura, umplata. And each one of those attacks opens up another attack. Its just not a good position.

  • I dont know this pass looks kinda risky, as you angle the body to one side the arm that is gripping the neck is vulnerable if the guy on the bottom brings his leg over you'll probably get caught in an omoplata shoulder lock?

  • its risky to give your back up in that manor

  • great pass..iv not seen that one before or anything like it...gona try it...

  • original I like it
