This is a documentary about the restoration of a unique model ship which has been in the possession of the Amarillo College Art Depart since the early 1960's.

During that period a member of the Art Faculty traveled to Europe to study and photograph Art for the duration of a summer.

This ship model was obtained in Spain and returned to the college as a prop in Still Life Drawing Classes.

Good intentions all around until at the end of the first year a student sat on the model breaking the front mast at its base. Through time this and more accidents rendered the model to a pile of junk covered in dirt, spider webs, and cockroaches.

Attempted repairs though well meaning were equally destructive. Until in May, 2010 the model was placed into the hands of AC Natural History Museum Director Richard Howard who has an expertise in both building and restoring model ships.

This video documents the restoration of the model to its condition today. That is it is awaiting the completion of its wood and plexi glass case.

It is a visually stunning model.

  • Very Nice, I bet it took some time to restore

  • I have one of these exact models. Interesting to know a bit about the origins.
