The Folkswingers had absolutely nothing at all to do with folk music or with swing either for that matter. God only knows how they ended up with that name. They were actually a studio band put together in the late 1960s to record an album called Raga Rock which featured the then very trendy sounds of Indian sitar and fuzztone 12-string guitar. The songs were all instrumental cover versions of some of the coolest hits of the day. The sitar player was an Indian master named Harihar Rao and the rest of the band featured a cast of top West Coast studio musicians like Dennis Budimir, Tommy Tedesco, Herb Ellis, and Hal Blaine. This is a very groovy record but I must apologise for the fact that across those grooves there are more than just a few scratches dont let them destroy your karma baby OM.

  • That is some weird shit and I love it (anything with guys from the Wrecking Crew is going to be good, right?).

Now I gotta go listen to some other Folkswinger tracks.

  • Glad you liked it. Maybe I'll post some other tracks from the album when I get a chance.

  • This is just pure amazing. Psychedelic Rock mixed with Hindustani Classical to make Raga Rock, it's just pure mind-blowing stuff!!!

  • @CornyPoopDude Great Turtle song not often one hears a 5/4 beat combined with a 3/4 beat..

  • @texecution Yes, this was written by the Turtle's Al Nichol lead guitarist and Chuck Portz bass.. Great song,I remember playing this non stop in 1967. Like all of the Tutles 45's it should have been a hit.

  • The Turtles' version is the original. It's kind of surprising that they would be doing this song next to stuff like Eight Miles High or Paint It Black, it was a pretty obscure song even when it came out.

  • Thanks for the comment. I've heard The Turtles' version - was that the original or were they covering someone else?
