Jennifer and Kevin McCoy created an interesting installation entitled "And the Band Played On," referencing the band in the Titanic that continued to play even as the ship was sinking. They manipulated the duality of irrational exuberance and looming Armageddon to comment on the current cultural moment—full of doubt, pessimism and fear on one side and decadent abandon on the other. The installation itself creates a multi-media sensory, bi-polar experience that comments upon the notion of façade, artifice and its conflation with history-questioning the notion of the "authentic" experience.
Beautifully laconic proposition!
