It's not really that cut and dry, if you read Wikipedia. Supposedly toilets are too small, so the Coriolis effect might not be the reason some toilets flush the other way.
I've posted a video response of my own flush (not sure if it went through) with a link to a snopes article.

This is incorrect, these types of toilet do use less, they can use a half and a full flush, half being 3 litres, full being 6 litres. Also, they do not need to refill the bowl after using less water even if they aren't dual flush. This looked like a full flush was used if it is dual flush.

Mmm interesting - maybe a close up video/photo of the rim could be of help. I also noticed that American toilets have alot of water in the bottom but a smaller discharge hole.

This toilet is from 1985 when the house was built. It is not the same design as the newer ones which have a short flush and a long flush. It does allow you to control how much flush you get by holding down the button longer.
