@DaddyWarbucks452 Good point. I find muay thai as a good striking style. Even so, a high-flying kung fu kick can be devastating if it connections. That's why I'd prefer to learn both.

Just because one can't beat up a UFC fighter doesn't mean this don't work. These are especially good on untrained people. I'm a BJJ guy and when we spar the locks are done with a degree of control so no one goes home in a cast. When I was new I got a knee bar put on me in a tourney and the guy slapped it on fast and I was outta there from the sudden pain, waaay different than sparring, a shock to the system. Must take it into consideration.

Chin-na is a much better example of Chinese grappling than this.

@reptile202 True but that's why I prefer stand up grappling over ground level grappling. When you're grappling while you're standing up; you have a better chance of ending the fight as effectively as possible. Take Dumog, Chin-na and Daito-ryu Aiki-jujtsu are very good examples of stand-up grappling and locking.

I'm a big fan of Shaolin kung fu, but a lot of these techniques don't look too effective unless you're fighting a wrestler with no kicking or striking involved. Not to say certain styles of stand-up kung fu isn't good because it's pretty good. If you want to take kung fu, I'd suggest BJJ for your grappling and Muay Thai for your primary style. Save the spinning kicks and sidearms, ect for here and there; like when you're opponent drops his guard or is hurt by a Muay Thai punch or kick.

@DaddyWarbucks452 A grapple could do the same-thing, though. The real threat with grappling on the street is probably having his buddies kicking or trying to stab you.

I agree with you on that. Their are a lot of crap talkers on you tube saying this won't work and that won't work when let the truth be known a lot of the traditional techniques do work. And the ring is not the real deal anyway the street is more that likely you are not going to square off with a person its going to be fast and in a hurry for you to do you thing not like in the ring. The elliment of surprise is your best defense in the street.
In the ring, cage or octagon a BJJ or Judo grappler has the advantage over stand up fighting but it's been proven useless against multiple attackers. Attackers will bite, scratch, and gouge out your eyes and sometimes smash your head against concrete. A boxer, karate, kung fu, eskrima, muay thai, or even silat fighter has a better chance against multiple attackers.

Just because you think that you won't be get caught by the techniques shown in the video doesn't mean other BJJ stylists and wrestlers won't. With all respect, you are just making assumptions, and very proud ones indeed. As martial artists, shouldn't we all be humble to all arts and never underestimate their efficiency at all?
