Continued from 'Vietnamese Adoptees Give Back At Go Vap Orphanage Care Day'

During the 35th year anniversary since the American War in Vietnam ended a few of us adoptees from around the world congregated for a reunion in Vietnam.

For the adoptees & their families who could not attend the Care Day on the 10th April at Go Vap orphanage, a few other Care Day's & donations were arranged for Go Vap orphanage, Thanh Son Affection House orphanage in Nha Trang, Doc Bernie Duff's Agent Orange Families & Mái ấm Hoa mẫu Đơn Orphanage. It was so nice to expand to other parts of Vietnam & help other orphanages as well as get to see the beautiful sights of Vietnam.
We delivered more aid; such as books, toys, stationary, clothes, medical aid, inflatable air beds, vitamins, Sudocrem, toothpaste & toothbrushes for the kids as well as rice, milk & MRI scans. Volunteering is very hard work but so rewarding, and when you are a Vietnamese adoptee 'returning home' then it can become even more emotional than usual; needless to say we ensured that we did have some fun too to balance it all out! That's the same advice I would give to any volunteer; to ensure that you get to see the country & have some time to rest & play for yourselves.
Not only did my fellow adoptees help these children in need, they went above & beyond either by donating or using their skills; such as Tia who is a nurse & gave her time by giving the children health checks. Her husband helped to fix a fan on the hydrocephalus ward that even the staff thought couldn't be fixed as well as painting the bathroom for the kids with Peter, Josh & John. Tricia held wonderful & much needed special needs classes as well as Dom & his art event for the kids at Go Vap. It was also heart warming to have Anne McCrudden on board as she is the mum of a fellow adoptee (Emma McCrudden). Anne's love & care for the children as well as the massages for the Hydrocephalus & Spina Bifida ward was inspirational & very much needed & appreciated! However, it was wonderful to see how the local Vietnamese people also wanted to donate & help in some way. Khoi who is a friend of Katherine, helped us to buy much needed rice & milk & also paid for the transport!
With the Vietnam Volunteer Network, we also work with other local Vietnamese organisations & do the best we can to buy the goods & aid in within Vietnam. The VVN is also partnered with the VHC (Viet Horizon Club) which is founded by Katherine Minh Huynh.

A special THANK YOU to the following people & organisations for helping the Vietnam Volunteer Network to make these special events occur:-

And of course; thank you to my family & friends, my fellow Vietnamese adoptees and their family & friends for attending & donating.

On another note, I will be returning to Vietnam 5th-27th December to deliver aid & Christmas presents for 4 orphanages in Vietnam. Please spare a thought for these kids in need who do not have a conventional 'home' or 'family' of their own to celebrate with. Please feel free to donate whatever you can on this site: www.vietnamvolunteernetwork.com. Thank you!

Together We Can Make A Difference!
