Reaction: Gates predicts new Iran sanctions

Today, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he expects international leaders to impose stronger economic sanctions on Iran unless the country agrees to engage in talks about its nuclear program. Do you think this is the right course of action? Should a deadline be set for Iran to change its behavior under the new sanctions, and if that deadline isnt met, should the international community proceed with military threats? Are you more concerned with Irans nuclear program or the war in Afghanistan?

Sanctions stopped being a useful 'tool' midway through the 20th century. Diplomacy has run its' course, to no avail. I don't see there being too many options left in the playbook.
