Thanet District Council runs a campaign called 'Thanet Is Beautiful'. Thanet is, indeed, beautiful. But the council also supports training flights from Manston airport by Oasis Hong Kong Airlines 747s, which, twice a week, overfly the picturesque seaside town of Ramsgate every nine minutes. What a joke.

  • The noise of that aeroplane at that height would not be that loud, that film is exaggerated.

  • Not true mate. The sound is exactly as it was recorded on the tape. The aircraft is flying very low over a terrace of listed buildings in Ramsgate. A disgrace in the eyes of most people who live here.

  • Hahahaha bloody racket, do'nt forget it swings aound Birchington and thunders past Margate too....

  • Yes but Ramsgate's the place that's really suffering. If only they could re-angle the runway so that it takes off and lands over Broadstairs!

  • Blimey the site says we're now in Spain!

  • No Just NO !! argh this makes thanet look good the true reality is pregnant teenagers cigerettes chavs concrete graffiti and chewing gum on ground and litter

  • The problem seems to be that some people just don't like change and are happy for an area to just stagnate. Manston has great possibilities for re-juvenating, as well as being lucrative for Thanet and will create much needed jobs for the area.

It's hardly going to be every 9 minutes (unless you are referring to the trainee pilots who circle to practice their landings very occasionally)

  • @Airbus294 with a name like Airbus I suspect you know a lot more about aircraft than me but after literally 1 minute of googling I have found many websites explaining their liquidation including the oasis Hong Kong site itself sooooo... I also suspect with the name of Airbus you are pro airport so its inevitable what your points are going to be so don't go to the trouble. I've had this discussion too many times and I cant be bothered to keep bringing up the same points.

  • @1HOLYDIVER1 oasis has not gone bankrupt. EUjet did. What is wrong with planes? The airport is there - get over it. It is privately owned, so Ramsgatonians do not have a say in the matter. How on earth are they supposed to quieten down? Airlines have every right to fly into an airport - that's why it is called an airport. Airlines exist to fly, not to worry about shits like you who complain about everything. The airport has to have operations or it will lose money.

  • @eastcliffrichard Re-angle? Do you have any idea how much money that would cost. A runway is not just a layer of concrete. It is specially made asphalt that is over 4 feet thick. Retard.

  • @eastcliffrichard oh stop whinging. Planes do not go high or low, they come in to land at a fixed altitude. What do you expect the airport/council to do about it. There is an airport there. It was there before you. Get over it.

  • It really isn't, you obviously don't live here because that is what we have to endure.

  • this is just how it is and the aircraft are like that and there always the late on on sunday night as i just going to sleep

but i love Ramsgate i still feel like i am on holiday mind you i have only live here for 15 months it heven compard to margate where i did live

  • It's EXACTLY like that! I used to regularly see the planes from my office. It was good fun spotting which ones were off course or coming in too fast or low!

  • Absolutely spot on with the sound - I moved away in the 1980's and that summed up my memories of life in Ramsgate - I was at Thanet Tech just up the road from Clarendon House. Absolutely we all stopped and then started again for the plane noise. Could have done my 'O' levels in half the time without them interrupting classes.
