I might also add that, true, you may not want words "ranting in your head when you're doing visual art...". That's exactly why I write them down. That's what keeps us FROM dwelling on them. :> And - that's exactly what Julia talks about at 3:15 in this video. lol
You don't seem to understand there are no absolutes in this world. What works for you won't work for another and vice versa. We are all so individual. "Morning Pages" is just another term for "journaling". And I've been doing that since childhood. It's great therapy for me (and millions of others). And yes, I am a visual artist - a painter. I paint every day and derive great joy from it. Organizing my thoughts helps in formulating ideas and frees my inner muse. For you - not so much.
So - you're saying that my "need to be the productive artist that I am today" will cause sorrow in the end? Somehow, I find it hard to understand how you arrive at that summation. I worked with an Artist's Way group in the mid 90s and went on to listen to her tapes and just completed the audio book of Walk through the World. She offers her own experiences that have worked and suggests ways to get in touch with our own thoughts and feelings which lead to a flow of creativity. It works for many.
Fifteen years ago Julia Cameron saved my life. I was led to the Artist Way through a Hospic friend and physic. Discovering YOUTUBE and her voice, once again I am embracing the Artist Way. Synchroncity moments appear rapidly when one practice their creative. Life is sweet.
Krishnamurti is liberating, wonderful. Julia Cameron is living your liberation is all its potential. Wonderful people: Don't see any of them criticizing each other for being unique.
I originally bought The Artist's Way as a gift to my sister... she never read it and more than 10 years later I plucked it off one of her bookshelves, out of sheer curiosity. I finished the book (and the program) and am absorbed in part 2: Walking In This World. I have come to love Morning Pages, as they work for me .
Thanks Julia!
As to the negative comments: you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. Up to you...
THats where we all want to be eh? free to make choices with pure confidence, aware of self and in tune with others, without any decisions to be made, it all becomes very natural....
My artists date - is roller skating - anybody who knows me, knows I have found my "soul sport" completely alone while fully interactive with my city and all its outdoor elements..
I think of my- morning pages as "a way to put the tetris game that is life on expert auto assist. DUring the 12 weeks I found it essential to maintain the motivation of that funny feeling that is " passive resistance to complications". without the distractions that are more prevalent in the absence of regular morning pages practice, when in constant practice I find synchronicity to be prevalent.
