01-17-10 Janis Sharp, mother of British computer hacker Gary McKinnon, talked about her campaign to prevent her son from being extradited to the US to face trial and imprisonment. McKinnon admitted hacking into a range of private networks including NASA and the US military while looking for data on UFO cover-ups. Sharp pointed that his confession was taken without a lawyer present, and that he'd been told that he would only get community service. He also suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, she noted.
Before he was apprehended, McKinnon had been hacking into the system for 6 months to a year but was leaving notes pointing out the numerous security problems. In an effort to bring his plight to the attention of Pres. Obama, Sharp enlisted such well-known musicians as David Gilmour, Chrissie Hynde, and Bob Geldof to participate in a music video of the Graham Nash song, Chicago.
