"Nat bad. Nat bad at'all." - Quote from 2001 Three Rivers Stadium Implosion

The old Union Carbide Building 82, which was donated to the University of Charleston, was imploded to free up the site's acreage. It was a common site seen from I-64 when driving past South Charleston. The skyline will definitely be different, but hopefully it will be a sign of progress. The 6.8-acre site will be sold by the University of Charleston.

(Pay no attention to the commentating onlookers. The police used the siren's on their vehicles to warn everyone of the impending explosion. Also, the cloud was of dust, not smoke.)

  • Thank You Dow Chemical for destroying yet another piece of my hometown's history. I know it doesn't matter to you, but wait until this happens in Midland!

  • Actually, Dow Chemical did not destroy this building. If you read the description, it explained that Dow took over the building, then donated it to the University of Charleston in 2006. UC paid about $1.6 million to demolish the building and took the proceeds of the detonation drawings for athletics. They will sell the land for about $3.5 million. They spent money to make money in the end. It was not Dow, it was UC.

  • For the lady in this video that says they did not do the sirens maybe she should listen to the 1st 15 seconds of this video. Sounds like sirens to me.

  • Yeah, I mentioned that in the description. The sirens did go off near the building, plus the cops turned on their car sirens. She didn't pay attention to that, which I guess made it more exciting for her.

  • oh! you were on the bridge, I was standing right behind you! lol

  • Were you in the dark pullover? It was a pretty good spot. I would have liked to get closer, though.
