The USS Forrestal (CV59) is being towed on 15. June 2010 from her berth at the Newport Naval Station to eventually become an artificial reef. She was launched on 11 Dec. 1954 and decommissioned on 11 Sept. 1993. She was the first angled deck carrier.
It makes me sad decommissioning and watching ships get blown up in the water to use as artificial reefs. Hopefully, they never do it to the Kitty Hawk.

I worked night shift and during the day and sometimes I hungout on a skinny hanging catwalk under the angle deck and watched the dolphins. Great experience. I was an AQF-3 in VA-83 in charge of night shift.

When I was stationed in Newport in 02-06, we always had our Navy security boats on the water watching over her and Saratoga.
