If back pressure hurt turbos, every diesel on the market would have one. If your turbo blows up (assuming you have a decent, non eBay turbo) it is from abuse, lack of maintenance, or bearing play. Go spool a diesel on a brake stand and sharply let off. You get pretty nice flutter especially on and older Cummins. This does not hurt the turbo as stated before, but it does kill the boost pretty instantly. Talk to real racers and they will tell you why they run BOVs

  • @92lude4gen

You are entirely incorrect. Most people don't know what a BOV is and those who do know it is to let excess pressure escape to keep the turbo spooled during shifts. That is the only purpose of a BOV. It is not to protect the turbo as back pressure does not hurt the turbo. The turbo never stops its forward rotation so there are no inherent oiling issues and because the throttle plate is closed, the engine is making no power and no heat, so heat is not a killer either.

  • @blown262 and doing so hurts the turbo having back build in pressure like that the BOV was designed to relieve pressure on the turbo. most people believe that a BOV is to protect the engine but when you let of the throttle the butter fly only allows so much air to pass even with boost applied to the butterfly plate. so in return it it tries to escape back threw the turbo causing problems

  • @JoshO812 its the same shit

  • @djrollzz Compressor stall, get it right.

  • COMO HACE ESE SONIDO CON LA BLOW OFF?

  • @splicerslayer129

"Fluttering" and there is a BOV. It doesn't mean it sucks, it just means it's set to open at a high boost pressure. I used to purposely set the HKS BOV on my old GSX at a high spring rate to flutter the turbo. It would only open for a split second and then close back up causing back pressure in the boost tubes.

  • Yeah pretty sure greddy type R as has been said, had one on my jzx100 chaser. Sounded the same as this, never had a prob with comp surge.
