Designed, built and tested in less than two months by 6 undergrad ME students at Tennessee Tech University. The test consist of driving along an airstrip at 30mph. The tire is either swept through 18 degrees of slip angle or up to 100% slip ratio. Data is collected for lateral and longitudinal force, slip angle and angular wheel velocity. The data is then used to make a tire model suitable for vehicle dynamic simulation. Models are created using nondimentional tire theory and the magic tire formula.
Looks nice! but how do you change tire load? if the intension is for transient force testing how do you avoid the dynamics of the rig(vibrations of the rig)?

Good question. We have bricks of lead to adjust the normal load. They can be seen bolted to the top of the arm. We are not trying to measure dynamic load responce, just looking for simple force vs slip curves. You can see a lot of data scatter at 3:54. Vibration would have been a bigger problem if we didnt test on a smooth runway.
