The panel has diffusion sheets that are wrinkling. These are thin plastic sheets used to spread the light evenly behind the LCD panel. More common to see on some Sharps and various Chinese imports. Unless you find a service center that has parts of a panel that they can used to replace these sheets, you will have to replace the whole panel. That costs more than the TV originally cost in most cases.

My dad has the same problem..he repairs tv sets for a living and he has tried demagnetising, connecting to laptop to run pixel repair but nothing works.so I guess it's just time to replace it or just live with it

Were you able to fix it yet? I have much the same thing happening, but we have bubbles (large and small round sections that grew from small de-pixelated areas) and horizontal lines all over the screen. The bubbles are visible when the TV is off, but the lines are not.

google: lcd black smudge
and i think this is from someone or something applying pressure to the spot.

Wow same exact issue and why I'm searching on here now just for this. I know its not dead pixels. I've never seen anything like this ever on any set of any brand. My set was also bought at wal mart exact same time frame as yours, cept its the 32 inch version but also Sanyo model.

I have thesame problem. Not only that your picture will go out soon also. Pretty much the tv sucks all you can do is get a better brand.
Cannot demagnetize a LCD TV they don't have a magnetiize field like CRT monitors or tv's! So, sorry this won't work. I looked it up!

You need to demagnetize the screen, has anyone put a magnet near your TV?
If so, a demagnetize ring will fix it.
