  • this is nothing new in the series they just added the wind effect

  • That is just brilliant. Way to make a totorial funny.

  • Hahahahahahaha!

  • "No, it has nothing to do with justice." lol <3 daishi

  • Kinda worried when i heard about clean hits having a small random damage boost, but this is alright. If you are really in your opponents head, you can anticipate an attack you can execute a quick move and probally punish them

  • This is great! Im glad they added a better way to dodge attacks. :D

  • @evil5150 As I said, Virtua Fighter has sidestepping. It's easy to pull out, but difficult to master and combine with more advanced techniques. It's an easy game to pick up but constantly draws a line between new and experienced players.

Smash Bros are games with simple mechanics, but they also draw this line. specially the Game Cube versions, where advanced techinques were introduced (wavedashing, L-cancel)

I think SCV can be an interesting game if it's both accesible and hard-to-master.

  • @evil5150 I don't think is specially approachable when compared to plain Street Fighter games, Smash Bros or hedonistic Dead or Alive. While I agree that the "wind" graphic looks gimmicky and cheesy, Soul Calibur has been looking cheesy to me since the female characters kept growing boobs no matter what and every character had the skin of a newborn baby and glossy blur was used.

About alienating hardcore players, you have to keep a balance between accesible techniques and hardcore techniques. ->

  • @bulbastre I was just discussing this with a coworker last night. SC is already the most approachable series for scrubby new and casual players, there's really not much left to dumb down. I feel like Namco is alienating actual fighting game enthusiasts by continuing to pander to the lowest common denominator by adding unnecessary gimmicks.

  • from my experience with Virtua Fighter 4 (where I first was exposed to normal sidestepping and a faster sidestepping), the faster sidestepping improved chances of evading. It was a very pleasing mechanic.

Overall, this new SC is simpler than the previous, with clear-as-water mechanics such as this quick move and "ultra" attacks that will appel to both new and casual players. Persoanlly, I prefer versus games with simple mechanics, so it's OK with me.
