ORANGEVILLE - Police here released Thursday the psychological resume of the man they believe killed nurse Sonia Varaschin in August.

Using behavioural science experts -- including from the FBI in Quantico, Va., and an OPP officer who interviewed serial killer Russell Williams -- homicide detectives say the killer is familiar with the town and specifically the spot where her body was found.

Varaschin, 42, was reported missing Aug. 30 by her parents Attilio and Michele, who live in Bolton.

Their single daughter, a former nurse at Sick Kids hospital in Toronto, then at Southlake hospital in Newmarket, failed to appear at her new job at a Mississauga pharmaceutical centre on that Monday.

Behavioural scientists believe the killer is familiar with Orangeville and specifically the area of Beechgrove Sideroad in Caledon where the body was found.

They believe the killer is comfortable with the area through past activity, whether illegal or recreational.

Police said that in the days following Veraschin's murder, the killer's routines changed and may have seemed out of the ordinary. He may have also had unexplained absences from his usual activites.

There may have also been an increase in alcohol or drug use and may have seemed irritable, agitated or anxious. Police said the person may have also moved from the area and limited his social activities to avoid detection.

Blood was found in her abandoned Toyota auto and home when police searched for her. Her body was found Sept. 6 in a remote area about 12 km west of the town.

Previously, the only significant clue police released about the suspect was that the killer wore size 10-11 work boots sold exclusively at Mark's Work Warehouse.

Varaschin moved into her two-storey Spring St. home in the town of 27,000 about three years ago. Anyone with information is asked to call the Orangeville Police Service tip line at 519-941-2522, ex. 2211.
