Removing the yellow tint from lenses caused by radioactive decay in the glass elements using UV exposure.

  • Did you Photoshop the lens to show more (or less) yellowing? The before/after photo shows no sign of hand or lens movement, just a difference in lens color.

  • @fulesmackofule It's not a coating, it's in the glass, mostly in the rear lens. And it is Thorium, not Barium, Uranium or anything else.

    But today you don't care for the yellowish tint, because you can remove it easily with Photoshop, as the video demonstrates.

  • why is it bad to have that yellowish coating on the lens? shouldn't it be there? is it forming by time? can anyone show me examples of pix taking with and without that yellowish layer? thx!

  • About a year ago, I was able to remove almost all hints of yellow from a radioactive 50mm f/1.4 S-M-C takumar using exposure to a 15-watt UV light for 8 days.
