Disclaimer: Song property of Virgin Records. Most of the pictures came from various photo archive websites on the internet (like Wikipedia). Sports Illustrated, Barbara Livingston (who takes so many great race horse pictures!) The Exceller Fund (Excellerfund.org), and Friends of Ferdinand (Friendsofferdinand.org). Visit those last two websites to learn more about saving horses from slaughter!

A video about famous (and not so famous) race horses who are no longer with us, whether they lived long lives, or were taken too soon, they made an impact on those who follow the sport. Legends live forever.

  • You did such an amazing job on this.....

  • @Letswinjeff Thank you. I'm glad you like it and I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

  • This is one of the saddest things in my life. To see horses die by doing the things they loved. And how they would do anything for us.Just to impress us, and show us how much they cared for the sport.

  • Yes, it is sad knowing that they go to great lengths to entertain us and get very little in return. That is why I believe more needs to be done to make tracks safer for horse and rider, and we need to take care of these athletes when their careers are over. They deserve better than a slaughterhouse! Ferdinand was a Kentucky Derby winner for God's sake, and they slaughtered him?! That's how we treat champions?

  • perfect video, except that john henry is still alive and kickin! 33 and still ornery as ever. thanks for the pics though, those are hard to find of him:)

  • Sorry to have to break it to you, but John Henry just died. He had a rough summer and suffered from dehydration due to a heatwave. They were treating him, but deveolped kidney problems and stopped responding to treatments. He was euthanized on Oct. 8th of this year.
