I've watched this vid 3 times today and I'm still not tired of it! and I don't think I every will be!

Man, there is some really cute (and also weird) motoko and batou fan art out there. I just wounder where it all is - seeing as I can't find any on photobucket or deviantart! X(

Still, it's great to know that there are actually more people who support this pairing!

[cont] Lastly, what do you mean in a "later movie" where she's shown to be the puppet master and a male cyborg? There is no such movie. If you're referring to the SAC movie "Solid State Society", then you're massively misinterpreting the movie's last 10 or so minutes. Also, obviously this movie is set in the SAC universe, and for what that means, see my first point...

Again, Shirow himself stated that cyberized sex (as opposed to physical sex, which cyborgs are apparently capable of) is only possible between females, anything else would cause immense distress to the participants. He gives his reason to come up with this as "not wanting to draw naked male butts". He wrote this in the accompanying text to one of his artbooks.

The term Ghost in the Shell itself means that the essence of life does not necessarily need a biological body, and in the case of cyborgs continues to live on in a titanium braincase (the "shell"). Shirow himself gave this explanation, but I don't remember where I read that. It's also elaborated on (and confirmed) in the last episode of SAC 1st GiG.

@deathcamp2 *Sigh*, where to begin... in the SAC series, it's an established fact that she was born a Japanese girl who lost her parents in a plane accident. She herself barely survived and became the youngest ever prosthetic body user. The two Oshii movies never shed any light on her background, except that she was originally biologically female: She mentions to Batou that she experiences the psychological side effects of having her period, even with her biological body gone.

@deathcamp2 Meaning its not hard to be a woman and change to a man, so why not the opposite? In the first movie, she is a soldier with excellent fighting abilities and not exceptionally great hacker skills. but a hacker named the Puppet master is fused with her. So now she has the ability to control multiple cyborgs. In a later movie about the puppet master re-appearing, the end shows that she is infact that puppet master and is a male cyborg.

@as12df12 in the series, they say she is a born of a collective data from the internet. Hense the name Ghost in the Shell. Ghost is a common term used in computers for random bits of code that they say have the potential to evolve. The shell is their cybernetic bodies. she/he doesn't know whether he is a boy or a girl, she actually wonders if shes a man. Batou also asks her why she doesn't trade into the male version of cyborgs for more power and control.
