St. Paul, MN security guard and SEIU member, Howard Worley, gives a poignant speech about respect to a packed rally of fellow guards and friends on February 9, 2008. At the event security guard members of SEIU Local 26 in the Twin Cities voted to authorize a strike if no agreement can be reached in negotiations.

  • Hmmm, seems to me like if you are unhappy and/or need to make more money for a better life - - Why would you put up with the current situation ? Were it me, I'd start my own business with a few of my workmates. The land of opportunity awaits you in Amearica.

  • Bravo! It is just too bad that this can't get out there where people can see it. I know that even the police look down on us as "'cop' want to be". I don't, and never have wanted to be, a police officer, but still you get "the look" from some of them. It's like Howard said, we are their eyes and ears, because they can't be everywhere, but, still, we do not receive the same type of benefits or the respect we should get for putting ourselves in harms way, and many of us are unarmed.

  • Pokerjeff, not everyone can afford to attend college but are everyday blue collar working men and women, try to make endws meet any way they can. If not for the Security people at their posts what would happen to you for example and you got mugged in a parking ramp without an active security person manning his post?

  • I am proud to say that Howard is my older brother and with a wife and 4 children to support I feel that him and all the Security personel are entitled to Healthcare benefits and better wages. I am extremely proud of you and I have to say.

    WAY TO GO BRO!!!!!!

  • Way to GO HOWARD!! You don't know me- but I work for the City of Minneapolis at the convention center- in their security department. I've worked in the contract security profession for 25+ years and I AM SO GLAD THAT WE ARE NOW GETTING A VOICE!!

    WAY TO GO HOWARD!!

And you should be very proud of your son-in law! =O)
