The commonest "reason" for performing the Odol/Udol dance is victory (of tribal wars). The dance is however, performed even by the 'losers'. The mesmering rhythm of the udol box is also believed to call the spirits of the deceased (fallen warriors) to show them (the dancers/performers) where their remains are so they could bring them home and have a decent burial.
