Performed by Judy Garland and Martha Raye for 'The Judy Garland Show', taped January 14, 1964. These Great Ladies Of Laughter take us on a wonderful medley of Glen Miller standards, including: 'I've Heard that Song Before', 'Moonlight Cocktail', 'Pennsylvania 6-5000', 'Elmer's Tune', 'At Last', & 'St. Louis Blues March.' This is one of my favorite segments from Judy's show.
Judy had history with Martha Raye, both having been married to band leader, David Rose. She became engaged to David in May 1941, just 2 months after his divorce from Martha Raye. Despite planning a big wedding, the couple eloped to Las Vegas and married during the early hours of July 28th 1941, with her mother Ethel and her stepfather Will Gilmore present. Judy was 19 years old.
While there is some controversy with details - Judy being forced into an abortion - essentially, the couple separated in January 1943 when Judy realized that David was too weak to fight for her and stand up to MGM. Judy always needed ... & looked for ... a protector.

You can tell that these two ladies were friends, they sure look like they're enjoying each others company. Martha was quite the cut up, and what a voice. And they sing so well together.

Not many people could one up Judy...Martha could...and did. Martha was funny, but not many people knew she had a beautiful voice. You made our world a wonderful place, Martha. RIP

Judy and Martha must've had lots of stories to share with one another, both having been married to David Rose!

Fabulous. I'd love to know what Judy says to Martha at the very end. I know what it looks like she's saying! "You're a _ _ _ _ _!" Great vocals from Martha Raye.
