I agree that the Matrix could evolved from Skynet which started the machines vs humans epic. As time past, Skynet realized that they can't survive w/o humans; thus, preserving the living human in the capsules and sense of being through computer visual imageries of living in a society.
As for evolution into Star Wars, I disagree. Star Wars is a story in far away galaxy, not Earth. If the humans overcame the machines, maybe it could evolve into a Neo-Star Trek -- space exploration

have you heard of Sophia Stewart author of the Third Eye. She is the Mother of the Matrix. Her work is used to make the movies Matrix and Terminator. Her story is the whole thing meshed together. You can just search her on youtube and get more info. She has a court case going on about this.
