Saw him in one of his first U. S. concerts. Man, it could have been 68-70, at Carnegie Hall in NYC where I grew up. He came out alone and sang his first album. Then there was a break, he came out again with Nigel and Dee, and performed the entire Tumbleweed Connection album, ending with this. Amazing.
I was 21 when saw Sir Elton In Melbourne at this concert, this song still does as it did back then give me goose bumps, this was a fantastic concert and Sir Elton was a trail blazer to have invited the MSO to play as his backing. I love this Album (LP), the album from the concert. How about another final visit Sir Elton to Australia??
The vocal nudles had taken itheir tole on him by that point which was the reason he couldn't use his falsetto and his voice sounded the way it did though I believe this was the first leg in his new voice
But I wonder if this was the concert that "broke" his voice? He sound totally different if you know what I mean :S. I heard he had an throat surgery in the late 80's,maybe it was because of this exact concert...poor elton :/. But he really can perfome :D!!
