@tlogic2007 I know what your saying but when you've done a few you don't really give a shit and accept the fact that you will probably die young compared to your normal job.

Wow, thanks so much for this video. Exactly the advice I need and so well explained. I'm currently battling to get rid of this awful Artex the previous owners put on. They must have loved the stuff, as it's everywhere lol :-)

@ AskABuilder. I see. That does make perfect sense.

That’s right Artex is not like plaster and can always be softened with water. But watch the sanding if old house could be asbestos in Artex.

well still a good Job been done,How ive done my frontroom ceiling is use the steamer 1st to make the artex and the paint soft, then scrapping it down till its all flat, now its flat all over the ceiling, just got to sand it down bit more, then I be putting up PVA Glue,Leave it for a few hours then skim over with the new artex and then use the stibble brush, then the Job be all finished, and looking just like new again
I assume you got the artex tested for asbestos before the guy in the video started scraping of the artex.

It was a 1990’s house and asbestos free, however, it would always be wise to wear protective clothing when carrying out any job and to dampen down any dusty surface.
According to the Asbestos WatchDog, “There is, however, no measurable risk to health from the asbestos content in TDCs.” (Textured Decorative Plasters) for more information search Asbestos WatchDog and look at the fact sheets under residential.

7 or 8 times !? isn't that a bit of an overkill? I thought max three coats would do the trick.

The answer is to keep troweling until smooth, three times could be ok, but the video was made for DIY’s and I want to get them to take their time and not try to get it prefect first time

I thought artex and polytex contained asbestos. What is all that scraped dust going to do to that poor chaps insides?

If unhappy working with Artex the best way would to be soften with water and scrap off first.
