Sun Dial (occasionally spelled Sundial) is a British space rock band formed in 1990 by Gary Ramon.
Sun Dial were leaders in the drug-fueled psychedelic revival in the early 90s, becoming one of Britains most acclaimed space-rock acts, along side stalwarts like The Stone Roses and Spacemen 3. Other Way Out remains the bands most successful album, receiving heaps of praise within underground critical circles.

Sounding like something straight out of the late 1960s, Sun Dial take the sprawling and sunny aesthetics of The Beatles, early Pink Floyd and The Zombies and weaves them into a extensive psychoactive journey that is as captivating as it is nostalgic.
Despite wearing its influences on its sleeve, Sun Dials instrumental prowess and sense of melody make them sound authentic within their niche. The lyrical substance of this album is light, remaining fixated on exploding colors and other hallucinative phenomenon. The lyrics complement the spiraling guitar solos, which are entrancing and placed at the front of the mix, becoming the primary driving force of these 11 tracks.

While the composition of these songs are dense, complete with organ flourishes, woodwinds and strange effects, they never loose the propulsive momentum and summery vibe that saturates their sound. Other Way Out may be pigeonholed within its specified genre, often sounding derivative of a long gone era, Sun Dials meticulous attention to detail and uninhibited appetite for expansive jams makes for a mind-altering experience that manages to be both pleasant and adventurous.

"Originally released in 1990, Other Way Out is an unsung masterpiece of classic 60s style psych rock. Its a culmination of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, Can, Hawkind, and classic rock ala Hendrix and Cream. It has an organic, warm sound to it, making it sound like less a product of its time than a relic from the 60s. Its a pleasant acid trip of an album. Its very engrossing and involving, with each song taking you further along on Sun Dials musical journey. Other Way In contains alternate takes and non-album tracks. If youre a fan of classic psychedelic rock, theres no reason why you shouldnt own this. Other Way Out never got its due when it was first released, but those whove heard it know that its essential listening."

  • If this were 1968 when we had Underground FM, this Band would have been a Classic . But in the Modern Era instead of finding a Band the easy way just by listening to Radio. You have to trial an Error a Million Clicks .I just consider myself lucky to have stumbled on them.
