  • we've not sexed this one yet but given that it's growing really fast it's likely to be a male. Brilliant temperament and feeds well. all round nice spider :)

  • I'm a beginner tarantula trainer, in other words I have never owned one, but I do plan on buying a mexican red rump. So what soil do you use? From what I researched the red rump likes to burrow.

  • Red rumps are nice, makes a good first spider. The soil is standard compost with no chemicals added e.g. fertilisers etc. It needs to be kept slightly damp, not wet.

  • ...and dont use soil from the garden as it may contain parasites that could harm the spider

  • @FireGuyX they like potting soil the most.. eco earth ..not so much mine is a 5" female in pre molt right now

  • NICE THAT WAS SO AWSOME WORTH THE WAIT ; )

  • Hahaha I Was waiting for the spider to snatch that cricket , and as soon as it did , I Jumped!

  • i love how the hunt. like yours. just got him in a corner and slowly but affectivily snook up and attacked. beautiful.

  • Spanky is beautiful. Did you get the coconut idea from Tarantula Keeper's Guide?

  • what a beautiful vagans you have is she freshly molted? Her colors are amazing! Check mine out shes about to molt

  • it reminds me of jaws.. the criket has no idea and the spider is like dun...dunun... dunun dunun...

  • How about the potting soil from Home Depot? And I finally got my 3" B. Vagans, currently using peat moss soil, it smells thinking about replacing it. My Vagans has been acting somewhat strange, it's burrowing a lot, it's webbing it's tree shelter, is it getting ready to molt?
