Just did a 1080p MKV shoot out... VLC vs Power DVD 11 vs Arcsoft 5. Software is maxed out with all the extras, and newest updates. Arcsoft mopped the floor with the rest, to be frank. The picture quality is unreal, you have full tweak-ability. Audio is incredibly realistic, picture quality is vibrant. Colors are a lot less drab, and not at all washed out looking. Accurate skin tones! No media software is perfect, but Arcsoft with the latest updates is best. Incredible audio and picture options!

Nope, sorry, I have good computers, arcsoft never crashes for me. I doubt you've used Power DVD 11, or Arcsoft 5, both up to date and current. You just talk shit and try to mislead people. I have VLC player too, along with Media Player Classic, and KM Player, ect. You sound like an A/V noob. I've uploaded and steamed mkv clips with DTS audio, in stereo or native 5.1 surround using the Divx Plus Web Player. I know what I'm talking about in regards to the capability of media players!

@RogerBarrettLives just your computer sucks an arcsoft is garbage software that always crashes

are you using VLC to watch MKV files daily? 7-20 GB files? h.246 and DTS audio? The player works fine, it just doesn't perform as well as other software do. Non the less, even if it worked without a hiccup, and never had pixelation, there is just no way that the audio is ever gonna sound as loud as it does in Arcsoft. Arcsoft has the best, loudest audio, and great pic quality and lots of settings. Arcsoft can stretch a fullscreen show to widescreen, and it looks awesome, vlc.. NO

@RogerBarrettLives i never had that problem VLC plays fine on system must be something wrong with computer maybe reinstalling it will help or upgrade to latest.

VLC Player doesn't ever seem to handle MKV very well, I always noticed white noise pixelation and freezing, and stuttering, where other sofwares play my files just fine. Lots of luck smart ass!

I have Power DVD 11, (basically same as 10) ad Arcsoft Total Media Player 5, they both constantly out perform VLC player with MKV files. They both offer a bit better picture than KM Player. Power DVD 11 removed individual tweaking controls. I mostly use Arcsoft. Arcsoft def wins if you're trying to stretch a full screen show, like the simpsons, or batman the animated series, into a widescreen, their "smart stretch" destroys. Stuff only ends up looking stretched on the very edges, which blends in

@RogerBarrettLives power DVD sucks VLC player is all you need

I'm looking for a device that plays and records video on the computer (Such as Cable, stuff I recorded on a VCR, and even gameplay footage from game console) I don't plan on playing the games on the computer, just record them, but would be cool to have my cable hooked up the the computer and watch and record shows and stuff...even picking up Cable signals would be nice. Also something easy to set and use, and doesn't slow the computer down in Windows 7. I can't figure out what is best to get.

the best solution for playing multiple video/audio formats on your pc, isn't to download a player like KM or VLC. It just better to install a codec package. That way you can have something that just integrates within you system. K-Lite is nice, CCCP is also solid, but I fine Shark007 to be the best. It has a really easy interface. KM Player is a disaster, It consistently crashes, and when you uninstall it, it breaks ALL of your codecs, nothing works afterwords.
VLC MEDIA PLAYER

KM player is the best!!! it plays everything, and i mean everything even the video file is not complete km can still play it.
VLC doesn't play everything. RMVB and RM for example.
KM player plays formats including RMVB and RM
