Marketing mavens created the word tweens when they realized kids aged 9 to 13 were spending more than $1 billion a year on stuff and needed to describe the demographic.

And these two bikes Hondas new VFR1200F and BMWs new-for-09 K1300S occupy a similar in-between niche. On one end are liter-sized sportbikes bred on the racetrack, like those in our recent 2010 Literbike Shootout. While the other end is occupied by big sport-tourers like the BMW K1300GT, Honda ST1300, Kawasaki Concours 14 and Yamaha FJR1300 we compared last summer...

  • Both are fine but make sure you have roadside assistance service with the BMW. 'cause it really sucks to have the transmission get wack and be stuck on the interstate hundreds of miles from anywhere.

  • It's a funny thing. I am supposing that no one who commented has ridden the new Honda, but automatically The BMW is the better bike of the two. No matter what the bike is, BMW is always better than the Honda seems to be the general Consensus. Oh yeah, and this is a setup job by the Honda pr, a sneaky Jap job orchestrated by some seedy Jpanese Honda executives, who probably paid these two guys with beaucoup de Yen.

  • Big as these bikes are, they should both be sporting ~6 gallon tanks. I'd contend with a slightly larger tank height for the added range.

  • @altratronic

true that, that really bummed me out.

  • The Honda seems like a great bike. Too bad they made the front end kind of ugly.

  • k1300s 2,8 seconds till reaches 100khper our

  • @perdidude too bad you'd be done after a few hours trip with a Blade (and no bags!).

With VFR 1200 i had days of travel with ease. It is no sport bike but the awesome engine

  • It is a cataclysmic shame they don't make top-fuel versions of these bikes.

  • welldone.

  • an so whats the point is???

  • I've ridden both, and preferred the VFR by a mile. Much smoother and the handling felt right from the get-go. I found the wind protection better on the VFR too (slightly)

  • @plutonium9 oukey.. thanks mate! good to know
