Yesterday around 5:30 pm they're were around 4-8 bats ( that I could see) flying above me Ido if they were chasing insects or distracting crazy I love in southern California and is it normal for them to come out at that time. Around 5 pm or 5-30 pm.. they were flying above me maybe 5-8 feet was the closest they came to me I didn't feel a bite but is it possible yo catch rabies if they fly close to me... close to the houses they're are some mountains or hills maybe they're like 3 miles far maybe

In California, if you have any questions regarding rabies exposure, please contact the California Department of Health Services Veterinary Public Health Section at (916) 552-9740. Their e-mail address is VetPH@cdph.ca.gov

Euthanasia is only recommended for unvaccinated pets. This is a major reason to make sure your pets are current on their vaccines!

In New York State, your county health department handles these problems.
You can find the telephone number for your local health department in the phonebook or on-line.
Pets exposed to rabid or potentially rabid bats are not automatically euthanised;
your health department can guide you based on the circumstances of the incident.
