This video show an excerpt taken from the documentary Phoque, le film, and part of an interview with the filmmaker. He went with seal hunters and animal rights activists, taking the pulse of their reality and methods.
This scene is the truth behind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhVUNKR6-7A
They filmed the suffering seal for 40 minutes. It tried to escape, terrified. They yanked it out the water so it could serve HSUS's purpose for another 40 minutes, until a sealer came and put it out of their misery (Rebecca Aldworth later claims they wanted to save it; not what I see in the HSUS crew's handlig of the seal. They knew they had been filmed... They sent top lawyers to get to stop Radio-Canada from airing the documentary.
The seal was wounded by a gun shot. Guns are used since the animal rights activists have tried to ban the hakapik, which, although it means a kill at point blank, gives a quick death. The seal's skull is very thin, so the brain is smashed and any following movement is random nerve firing. This hunt is much more humane than any slaughterhouse operation.
HSUS won an award for their video. If only people knew... Who, really, uses seals for questionable purposes, I wonder?

***April 30, 2009: English translation:
Narration: ... but while she was addressing her message to the camera, the seal escaped to the water, probably terrified by these humans taking advantage of its agony. Instead of being putt out of its misery, which would have been the compassionate thing to do, or left alone to die in peace, it was taken out of the water under the pretence of saving it. It therefore continued to agonize for a photo session that lasted a further 40 minutes, until a hunter came and put an end to its suffering.
Lepage (interviewer 0m52s): We dont like this...
Jomphe (0m54s): I was very happy that Radio-Canada had the courage to air this despite the legal manoeuvres around this very scene, they wanted to prevent us... they put the most powerful lawyers from the U.S., and probably from Canada as well...
Turcotte (1m12s): they are powerful, these anti-hunting committees, they are strong...?
Jomphe (1m17s): Yes, they are called animalistes [animal-welfare], a term coined [in French] by M. Louis-Gilles Francoeur [note: environmental issues journalist for Montreal newspaper Le Devoir] to make the difference between an environmentalist and an animaliste, which are animal protection extremists, they anthropomorphise and suggest that the animal is more important than humans. Whereas I looked at the topic from an ecological standpoint.

  • To say the least, HSUS is not very ethical.

  • YAY!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness someone put up the truth about these idiot do gooders. How dare they come up with their bleeding hearts and tell the people who have respect for the animals they eat and hunt how to live and especially how to hunt. It drives me mad. It angers me at the continued arrogance of the white man. If they don't like it don't eat them....but try to live up north without eating meat. Please...do try it and enjoy your death.

  • seals are overpopulated in some areas. off the coast of one canadian island the seals have nearly wiped out an entire species of fish, which in turn will knock the eco-system out of whack. this will over time eventually lead to the extinction of many species in the area including the native seals. the cruelist thing is anti-hunting and anti-trapping. HSUS, PETA, ASPCA and others have decieved everyone of their supporters I wish everyone would stand up to these cruel "animal rights" organizations

  • wow, an anti-sealing group not really caring about seals... unbelievable! hahahaha note the sarcasm, Ive seen the anti sealing jackasses in Canada, they eat more beef and pork and other animals in one day of filming the all canadian sealers kill in an entire year. Fuck them.

  • To anyone interested to have the full movie translated, I have it on my channel. Have an informed opinion =)

  • @TrueAnimalCaring

Veganism is the moral bottom line for non violence towards living beings, human and non human alike, so if it's your right not to be a vegan(fine) then what's with your stupid name?

  • Down with H$U$ and the rest of the animal rights nut jobs.

I say yank H$U$'s tax exempt status!

  • You can never trust the HSUS. Few animal rights groups have mastered the art of deceit and deception as well as the Humane Society of the United States. It's one of the most dangerous and dishonest animal rights organizations in the world today.

  • @flanksteak2 do you actually have anything useful to type?

  • Learn about "chemtrails"
