Enable 480p and use the arrow icon! "The Vatican Rag" is now REPUBLISHED yet another time to celebrate a lot of video views for the first two versions published to YouTube. Why? Well, to offer the song in (even) slightly better quality. Use HQ if possible and play back the video on a single YouTube page to get a bigger video window. The older versions will stay on the channel.

"The Vatican Rag" is also re-uploaded to celebrate religion and religious holidays. Over the years a lot of people have been offended by this song, also on YouTube. Please listen to Tom Lehrer's spoken intro.

In 2008 Lehrer really said "OK" to "The Tom Lehrer Wisdom Channel" on YouTube, as long as the performance is not altered and as long as it's free in the YouTube flash video format. April 2010: Buy the NEW DVD here:

Click on the user name and visit the channel's front page. The channel is Lehrer only. And here is a link to the channel's support page:

Can you tell me if ther is a clip of Tom Lehrer doing The Vatican Rag on /in The Gong Show Movie available on You Tube or anywhere else? I remember seeing it and would like to download that particular version of it, especially with his chorus line of nuns dancing. Thanx.

@TheSV3, no, I don't know anything about this. Wikipedia says that the movie was made in 1980 and, by that time, Lehrer was back in business as a university lecturer in math. Please send me a message if you find such a video clip. Search for Marty Feldman and Tom Lehrer on YouTube to watch some nuns dancing to the rag.

@drunkdified, yes, this really is Tom Lehrer, performing in 1967. Click on my stupid username and visit the channel, which is Lehrer only and nothing else. Thank you for your comment :-)

@drunkdified, no, Lehrer has nothing to do with this channel. But if you are asking if the man singing in these videos is Tom Lehrer? Yes is the answer, and he knows about the channel too.

Pope Benny probably danced to ragtime before joining the priesthood.

There isn't a Catholic in the world with a sense of humour who wouldn't find this a hoot

The rendition on The Gong Show was some people lip-syncing to the track. I believe it's in The Gong Show Movie.

This song is of course why Pope Benedict chose to step down.

For somebody so inherently nerdy, he really was quite the looker, and charming too! You'd never guess at first glance that he was a math nerd and a chemistry nerd and so very snarky on the inside!

Atheist Canadian over here, actively protesting the current treatment and depictions of Middle Easterners in modern North American & European media, politics, law, and social hierarchy.

Citing human nature as a basis for your opinions is all well and good on the large scale. However, the large scale is, without exception, made up entirely of individual beings. An Important thing to remember.

I have a couple muslim friends who are wonderful people, I despise the religion just as much as Christianity or Judaism, there is no bigotry over here.

My point is that people have always acted despicably and have trodden on other nations in the interests of their own. Whenever one nation is on top, the nation being oppressed is the one to complain about it, as if they have never done similar things to other nations in their past. Human nature is to blame, not a particular people.

Funny to see someone clarifying that they do not consider themselves to be part of, or affiliated with, a number of groups being discussed, only to turn around and incorrectly accuse the other of belonging to groups in the same discussion.

Were your words any more obtuse, I'd suspect you of trolling.

Hell, just hearing you follow up "Don't blame the successful" with claims to be pacifistic only reaffirms that suspicion. Oh, and that whole " Fuck Islam" thing.

Truly the words of a bigot.
