while we're here i should probably mention that our motley conglomerate has recently adopted "the balloon corps" as a title... http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Balloon-Corps/210079019032843
i'd give an arm and a leg for your two cents...

i dreamed you off the freedom bridge
down into a lion pit
the stadium roared, i woke up in the hall
roanoke, condolences
but some of us weren't built to live
in temperate climes--others not at all

i've been trusted with a compass and a head start
keep a bullwhip, have a cruel wrist, and if your lead heart
quails, then sail

they say in spain you get so tan that you don't recognize yourself
and then the paper trails are like captured falling leaves
and that the rain there falls so gentle on the plains it's hardly felt
until you're wrinkled up from your fingertips to feet

you my matryoshka doll
i showered you in ethanol
begged you not to shed another layer
because pandora caught my ear one day:
i lifted off the last white face,
saw nothing in that reticule but air

what i mean is that the sea gives as it takes, and
i've a seam loose but i need you for a daytrip
if you're in

they say in spain you get so tan that you don't recognize yourself
and the calcite vapor trails are your sidewalk masterpiece
and that the rain there falls so gentle on the plains it's hardly felt
and you can drink it up like an absinthe cut with lethe

with bites long healed,
god i miss the feeling

with our skins thick from a winter in virginia
with a ship's crew full of kids who never did drugs
watching the coast fade, and the cold days we were in love
drift into history

but guess what, in spain you get so tan that you don't recognize yourself
and if that's ok with you, it's spectacular for me (forgot the words here and went with "lbmtskdfl" instead)
and what's more the rain there falls so gentle on the plains it's hardly felt
and you can drink it down like a sacrament
and it cleans you out like a bathroom sink
and your darkest hours trickle laughing down the lethe
