The Track "Sultan Osman - Part VII" is taken from the fantastic Album "Burhan Öcal & Pete Namlook - Sultan Osman" (2001). It is a brilliant ambient release, a collaboration of Burhan Öcal, a leading master percussionist and composer from Turkey and Pete Namlook. Without sacrificing the authentic rhythms of the traditional musical instruments, many of these rhythms have been adapted to instruments of percussion. The 7 parts of this album range from massive percussive rhythms to traditional Turkish ottoman folk music to chill-out/ambient soundscapes at their best.
In this album where numerous traditional instruments are employed with their utmost exclusive features, Burhan Ocal performs on all percussions and string instruments in the songs, all of which are written by himself. The artist rediscovers the Turkish rhythm language, which is recreated when adapted to earthenware kettledrum and other instruments. In other words, he demonstrates an explicit excellence in percussion. Moreover, he furnishes it with the unique sensation of human voice.
Pete Namlook, on the other hand, is the founder of the electronic pattern free of computer kicks, yet close to analog recordings that totally give the acoustic impression peculiar to the most dominant post-rave genre ambient. Although there are prerecorded samples and sounds, three quarters of the album is gifted with the acoustic instruments to assure an organic and authentic structure. This beautiful timeless piece of music is a tribute to the great Sultan Osman.
A truly modern & rhythmic world music. Listen and enjoy it.
