  • I just watched it again, and the baby goes "Eh!" on at least two occasions.

A baby who is frightened or in pain doesn't go "Eh!" A baby who is frightened or in pain throws a wall-eyed fit.

It sounded more like a coo than a wall-eyed fit to me.

If there were anything I would criticize, it would be that perhaps they should not have demonstrated ALL of the techniques and scenarios together.

  • it's amaizing

  • My mother was a lifeguard. By the time I was 2 I could swim the length of the pool under water. The other lifeguards called me the little fish. I don't understand people that "don't know how to swim." To me that's like saying I don't know how to walk. Kids can learn to swim just fine at any age.

  • @dancinLT this isn't the first time the kid has been in the pool. There are techniques to teach very young kids when to breath and how to bob properly.

  • omg poor baby.. she just flips him like that?!!? crazy... He's floating because of buoyancy and the density of the water, but that doesn't mean he knows how to breathe and when to inhale and exhale. I just find it crazy how she just submerges him like that. Just worried that the poor kid might inhale water into his tiny lungs.

  • I'd be interested to know, now that a number of years has passed, how the kid is getting on with his swimming? I'm chomping at the bit to take my little lad to the local pool, want to wait till he's a couple of months old though. Fantastic set of comments about this video by the way, love a good gilggle at other peoples heated frustrations!!

  • @flintp51 But, you did reply. And you are BOTH WRONG. To each his own. There's no sense in arguing over something as simple as when your child should learn how to swim. It's not a matter of "knowing HOW to swim" it's a matter of "knowing what to do, just in case you HAVE to swim". Some will start at 2, 13, or whenever the hell their parents feel like teaching their kids how to. Adults drown too.....

  • I would rather my child have to be unhappy or uncomfortable for a few mintues if it may save their life later on. I agree, also as a mom of a 1-1/2 year old this is difficult to watch. I am trying to teach my baby to swim now and it is not easy.

  • As the sister of a child that almost drowned at age 2 i can tell you that these techniques can be lifesaving. What if god forbid the baby falls in the water, he or she will be able to roll themselves over and float. "He will learn to swim later". I'm sorry but that is dangerous. Babies should learn to swim immediately. The baby is clearly not in danger, or choking. He may not have been thrilled with what was happening, but to say he is being "tortured" is a bit much.

  • I have two children - a newborn, and a 16 month old who has never learnt to swim, yet has no fear of the water and will quite happily jump in at any opportunity. While I and others watch him with hawk eyes I am always fearful something MAY happen and I MAY not be quick enough to gain control of the situation. I will definitely be teaching my newborn to roll and float, not as a showpiece or to traumatize him, but because it may just save his life if the worst should happen.
