In the '80s I lived in a top-floor apartment of a Victorian house on Van Duzer Street in Staten Island. One winter night there was a watermain break around the corner from us, which pretty quickly froze solid. People driving down Beach St. had a pretty hard time, and one driver lost control, skidded around the corner, and wrapped around a pole right in front of our house. Luckily noone was hurt, ambulances and police came right away, etc. The next morning I saw the wreckage - pretty wild.
