I'm sitting here at midnight... I just watched this ABC signoff clip, and the house is silent. What an eerie feeling.....

Why broadcast 24 hours a day when half of it is filled of crap during the working week?
-
this version is beter than the 1988 bicentenial one.
-
That music. I'm expecting a cop show to start up.
-
Gosh, I remember that!
-
Wow, the similarity between that ending and the ending of the Borat film is spooky.
-
Glad to hear you like 'Advance Australia Fair'... it has enough naysayers.... Tho 'God Save the Queen' looks like it is with us as Royal Anthem for a while yet...
-
Good point. And in my view the best thing we've ever done for our national identity (ie dumping God Save The Queen as our national anthem)

It's often forgotten that the ABC was a long-time promoter of 'Advance Australia Fair'. The ABC used 'Advance Australia Fair' to announce news broadcasts during the Second World War. It was Australia's National Tune (we heard the tune but did not sing the words, as the National Anthem was still God Save the Queen) from the referendum held in 1977 until 1984. Its use by the ABC is therefore neither unusual nor, in 1980, unexpected.

And how about that national anthem-Australia then and now, with drawing of 19th. century education, industry, communications and the like...and the Australia of today with satellite dishes, trucks and more!
