The husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames are widely regarded as America's most important designers. Perhaps best remembered for their mid-century plywood and fiberglass furniture, the Eames Office also created a mind-bending variety of other products, from splints for wounded military during World War II, to photography, interiors, multi-media exhibits, graphics, games, films and toys. But their personal lives and influence on significant events in American life -- from the development of modernism, to the rise of the computer age -- has been less widely understood. Narrated by James Franco, Eames: The Architect and the Painter is the first film dedicated to these creative geniuses and their work.

Pehaps in the future but not in the US release. There are optional English subtitles, if that helps.

Great film, the only criticism I have is it wasn't necessary to bring up Charlies Eames' extramarital affair. That segment seemed out of place and really didn't jibe with the rest of the film since most it concentrated on the professional life rather than the personal.

It's currently available for streaming on Netflix.

Can anyone who's seen it confirm whether the feature has much archive 4:3 footage cropped to widescreen as it is in the trailer? I guess from how widespread such cropping is that many people find changing aspect ratios jarring, but I don't mind that and instead find it obvious when the image has been cropped to keep to the same one.

i have not seen this but am a longtime eames fan. just because their personal life does not match their oublic persona does not make their work a sham, it just makes them human. you put people up on pedestals and you might see under the skirt! or put it another way, did we need to know jfk, fdr, etc. had affairs? i think we handled it ok.

i have seen the documentary and that is why i vote against it. not because it is not made well but because it is a very unpleasant look at their personal life, which was a sham and a total pretense.
