how do i stop maps from running in the background it uses to make battery and task killer does not help

How do you terminate a running Maps application on an Android phone? It's using up memory and drains the battery.

@Goodness250. Thanks I realized now. It's ok to use the google map on android as long as I don't travel. If I do travel , then it's better to get a separate GPS. That way I don't have to pay data charges.

@minehumbleopinion I was told by a Verizon rep that Google Maps is a free app, BUT all Android phones require a $15 per month data package.
