I wasn't too keen on Kate either for a while, but as Season 2 progressed I began to see her potential. She really does grow on you like you said.

At first I thought she was very annoying, but then I decided to give her a chance. I realize that it wasn't fair to judge her character base on 1 or 2 episodes. So far she's growing on me as well.
