This is my first video, but I heard this song and the lyrics were so perfect for Sarah Jane Smith and "School Reunion" that I had to make it. Written and sung by Aimee Mann (with a little help from Elvis Costello). Wish the picture quality could be better, but I'm still figuring stuff out.

  • I've always thought this was the greatest co-lab from 2 of the best writers ever... Aimee will always be my muse!

  • "And though your wristwatch always works/Your necktie never fits . . . "--such a great, great line, and such pure Costello! But then this song is full of great, great lines--lyrical and melodic . . .

  • This is beautiful, and all the more poignant in light of Lis Sladen's passing. Goodbye, Sarah Jane, you will be sorely missed :(

  • Goodbye Sarah Jane. RIP.

  • R.I.P. Ms. Sladen T_T

  • Whoever posted this, I love you. As a late 70s/early 80s kid who watched Tom Baker, K9 and Sarah Jane, I became a fan of Aimee Mann in university. This is such a beautiful song, and one that perhaps, the record buying public never realised or understood in 1988 when Til Tuesay released Everything's Different Now. You have done such a marvellous job in making a video that all Dr Who fans - and Aimee Mann - fans will love. Seriously, if I ever meet you, I WILL buy you a beer. Thank you. ;)

  • the costello version is haunting, wish i could find my cd ;(

  • @captslappy There is indeed an Elvis Costello version. I prefer EC's version, theres much more atmosphere. And though Aimee is great, I feel that EC sings it with more emotion. It's easier to believe the lyrics when he sings them.

  • Damn, this is a great song! Kudos to Elvis for always being ready to work with other first-rate songwriters, and kudos to Aimee for an overall great career that too few people have heard about.

  • Thank you for the info. I will have to check that out.

  • Elvis recorded his own version. Look for it on the "All This Useless Beauty" album.
